Rocket Whip, the queer-led Greater Manchester theatre company who bring zany, adventurous and original comedy musicals to the stage are returning to Salford Arts Theatre for their third kraken show at the GM Fringe on 28 and 29 July.
Formed in 2021, the company have taken annual shows to the Fringe with a diverse, female-led set of talent behind the wheel. Their first show, "Communism: the Musical!" sold out three times – and was described by Number 9 as “a clever and extremely funny 90 minutes.” Followed up by ‘Best Musical’ nominee (GM Fringe 2022) "Skedaddle: A Space Opera!" - which Starburst Magazine thought was “The most exciting show of 2022.”
Remaining true to their core mission, Rocket Whip are committed “to convert even the most sceptical theatregoer to the unexpected range and fun of musical theatre, and to keep on building new opportunities for upcoming artists who write, sing, dance, act, or anything in between.”

This year, an ensemble cast bring a wacky and mysterious adventure to life in bold, character-led madness:
A girl washes up aboard a ship in the middle of a vast void…With no memory of who she is, she meets the zany crew from a range of time periods, along with the eccentric Captain Longsocks. She joins them - where else can she go? Our hero seems doomed to sail the Seas of Time until she can face whatever fears her heart is running from and find her way back to her own time. Humour meets heart meets harmony.
Ahoy: Ballad of the Time Kraken showcases loveable characters from all across time, working together to figure out their deepest fears and find their path home once again. Through the heartfelt lens of friendship, New Blood comes to remember and confront her hard past. With pride in herself for weathering a difficult journey, she must put her confidence and courage to the test and help her newfound family defeat the dangerous Time Kraken.
Liv Burton, Writer of Ahoy said: “This is our third in a series of heightened, raucous and friendly musical escapades that lean on the fourth wall and bring a fun-filled energy to Fringe audiences. Join us and set sail down to Salford Arts Theatre and breathe the free, salty air of the devilish seas of time.”
Dates: Fri 28 July, 19:30. Sat 29 July, 14:00 & 19:30.
Running time: 2hrs (including interval) Age restriction: 10+
