The 2022 Craftsmen at the Priory exhibition and sale has opened in the Dacre Hall at Lanercost Priory near Brampton and will run throughout the month, opening every day up to and including Tuesday 30 August.
Work by more than 15 artists and designer makers is featured in the exhibition, including six new participants for 2022.
“We’re all about celebrating the quality and variety of contemporary craft and creativity,” says Tricia. “Several of our recent favourites are involved this year, including members of the Withy Crafters with a huge selection of their baskets and basketwork, Liz Jones with her distinctive printed textiles and Nancye Church with a selection of her beautiful silverwork and jewellery.”
“New this year are Mariana Klymchuk, a Ukranian artist from Kyiv currently living in Cumbria, Nikki Clark, a glassmaker, Martin Evans, a Cumbrian painter specialising in landscapes, Polly Marix-Evans, a printmaker, Nenthead-based paper artist, Anuska Wittman and Cath Ball, who trades as Stitched Ceramics.”
The Dacre Hall makes a beautiful exhibition space and the first-floor hall is accessible using a stair lift if required. Prints by Denise Huddleston and amazing cabinetry, carved and painted wooden items by RAM Workshop are the first items to be seen at the top of the stairs and they make a real impact. Baskets made by various members of the Withy Crafters group are displayed throughout the Hall and both Nancye Church’s jewellery and Nikki Clark’s stained glass panels benefit from display in the natural daylight from the high windows.
In a separate room on the same level there is a gallery of prints, original photographs and paintings and there is a sales area on stage for other locally-made crafts and goods, including candles, textile lampshades, wrought iron work and wooden boards, so there is plenty to see and buy for the £1 admission charge.
