In My View, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Eden-based artist, David Boyd will be opening in David’s studio and home at Lazonby on Saturday 26 November. In My View - a deliberately ambiguous title - will bring together satirical political caricatures with lockdown work and over 30 landscape paintings that feature places from Cumbria’s coastal towns and Eden villages to the Lake District fells and passes.
“We last held an exhibition at home in Lazonby in November 2019,” says David, “and it’s a minor understatement to say that quite a lot has happened since then. I’ve been fortunate to have exhibited my work in Penrith, Maryport and Shap in the past two years and to have been able to paint en plein air when lockdowns allowed, visiting amazing locations on our doorstep. Even during lockdown, I captured some of my frustrations and activities in a series of paintings, three of which were part of the Through the Locking Glass exhibition at Rheged.
“I’ve also been more active on social media in recent years, sharing more of my satirical drawings, and capturing some of my political opinions – particularly of Boris Johnson – in caricatures. All this activity means that there’s an opportunity to bring together a varied exhibition with lots of these elements exhibited in one place. I’m keen to see how it all works together and to show just what I mean by In My View.”
David’s Studio and the In My View exhibition will be open every day from 11:00am to 3:00pm from Saturday 26 November until Sunday 4 December at The Old Chapel in Lazonby (CA10 1AH for satnavs). The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue (£15) and a range of cards and giclée prints will be on sale as well as framed original sketches and paintings.
