Twelve of the region’s best artists and makers plus three special guests will be exhibiting and selling their work in the Witherslack Artists and Makers Group exhibition this year. The 2023 exhibition opens in the Dean Barwick Hall at Witherslack on Saturday 23 September and will run for just over two weeks to Sunday 8 October.

Regular members include ceramicists, Alvin F Irving and Hans Ullrich, and chair maker, Paul Girling as well as ceramicists, jewellery and basket makers, leather, stone and glass workers and several artists and printers. As well as diverse new work from regular members, the 2023 exhibition will also showcase the creative skills of three guests: ceramicist, James Hake, landscape artist, Ben McLeod and knitwear designer, Kate Stalker of OUBAS.
The exhibition, which is celebrating its 30th year, has an excellent reputation for high quality fine art and craft and attracts visitors from across south Lakeland and beyond. “People want to buy the very best of Cumbrian design and creativity,” says Jane Bradley, one of the organising team, “and we seem to have found the right balance of combining our core membership and their new work and new people bringing something a bit different.”

“It’s a lovely setting and space and visitors also appreciate the opportunity to talk to the artists, designers and makers. A couple of us are on duty throughout the exhibition and I think that personal contact is part of what brings people back each year too.”
The Barwick Hall venue is alongside St Paul’s Church near Halecat Nurseries and up the hill from the Town End of Witherslack. There will be signposting from the A590. The exhibition is open for two weeks, starting on Saturday 23 September and running until Sunday 8 October, open every day from 10am to 5pm.
