Following the success of Likkle Lit Fest, Out of Many People’s first festival of Black literature for children held in Leeds last month, the arts and heritage organisation is delighted to announce that Likkle Lit Fest On The Road is heading to Kirklees.
Award-winning illustrator, author and character designer Dapo Adeola will bring his interactive story time and drawing workshop for 5–7-year-olds to The Crypt at Huddersfield Parish Church, on Saturday, March 21.
‘Draw Along With Dapo’, based on his illustrations in picture books including the superhero-themed Super Goat Girl by Tracey Baptiste, was a big hit with families at Leeds Central Library in February.
Likkle Lit Fest on the Road also sees the return of the popular Bredda Ansell’s Jamboree, a family session with performer Ansell Broderick, featuring Anansi the spider-themed storytelling, ring games, riddles, traditional folk-dance moves and drumming, all rooted in African Caribbean ancestry (for ages 4+).

Out of Many People Director, Susan Pitter said: “Out of Many People is committed to bringing inspirational Black literature in all its forms to children and families in the North, so we’re delighted to be working with Dapo and Ansell once again.
“During a national reading crisis, it is vital that our work to engage children in reading is accessible, so we’re excited to partner with Hudawi Cultural Centre to bring Black storytelling for all families to Huddersfield.”
Hudawi Cultural Centre’s Natalie Pinnock-Hamilton added: “Collaboration across the region is critical to tackling the national reading emergency.
“It’s great to be working with our Leeds-based friends Out of Many People to bring sessions to Huddersfield rooted in Black storytelling and talent that inspire children to read.”
Likkle Lit Fest On The Road takes place at The Crypt at Huddersfield Parish Church, Byram Street, Huddersfield. Saturday, March 21, from 11:45am – 2pm. Tickets are ‘pay what you can.’ To book CLICK HERE
